The C Family, Oxfordshire

The C family improved the efficiency of their home by installing Worcester’s Greenskies solar water heating system combined with a SEDBUK ‘A’ rated Greenstar oil-fired boiler.

The Greenskies solar water heating system is now working alongside the high efficiency Greenstar boiler to provide around 50-70% of the C family’s annual hot water requirements for free. The C family installed their solar panels in 2006 and, since that time their fuel bills have been reduced by around £150 a year.

Mr C said: "We’ve been amazed by the performance of our Greenskies solar panels, even in the depths of winter the panels are still collecting energy from the sun and heating our water. It’s great that we can switch our boiler off in the spring and back on at the start of winter – so, for six months of the year, our oil bills are hardly anything at all.

“We would definitely recommend a solar water heating system to anyone who is thinking of making energy improvements to their home. It’s one of the best investments we’ve made, for the initial investment (ours was round £4,000), we are not only happy that we’ve significantly reduced our home’s impact on the environment, but we’ve also lowered our fuel bills as a result. In addition, our property has increased in value – which is great news!”

Official energy ratings taken from Energy Performance Certificate

Energy efficiency rating

Very energy efficient - lower running costs

Energy efficiency chartee-32

Not very energy efficient - high running costs

The energy efficiency rating is a measure of the overall efficiency of a home. The higher the rating the more energy efficient the home is and the lower the fuel bills are
likely to be.

Environmental impact (CO2) rating

Very environmentally friendly - lower CO2 emissions

Environmental impact chartei-31

Not environmentally friendly - high CO2 emissions

The environmental impact rating is a measure of a home’s impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The higher the rating the less impact it has on the environment.
